“We serve a mighty God!” I have heard this said numerous times this week, and each time a new person says it, I feel this wave of emotion. A friend said it the other night at the softball games and I felt my eyes begin to fill with tears of joy. It is SO true. We serve a mighty God. There is so much joy to be felt in serving God and bringing Him glory. One way we can do this is by getting involved and being active in the church. Here are a couple of reasons why we should be serving:
God has given each of us unique gifts to serve Him.
“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy in proportion to our faith, if service, in our serving, the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Peter 4:10-11
The laborers are few.
The need is greater than ever.
“Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefor pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
We are all called.
We need every follower of Jesus to embrace the Great Commission if we are going to reach every person with the Gospel.
I believe that one of the biggest mission fields inside of our church is our Children’s Ministry. Our children are so open to learning and hearing from God. What better way to practice sharing the Gospel, than with our children?
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28: 19-20
Serving is fun, especially with your friends. If you are new to the church, this is a great way to meet others in the church and begin to build lasting friendships. Some of my greatest friendships are with those I am alongside in ministry.
God has given us purpose.
You guys, Jesus DIED for us because he loves us so much. This is enough of a reason why we should be serving in our church. To teach others about Jesus, to share His love and compassion, and to fulfill the purpose we all have. We are on this earth to serve the Kingdom of God and His church.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
We do serve a Mighty God! He deserves to be glorified. He deserves our service. I want to challenge you to look at the needs of our church and jump in!
