From time to time, we’ve heard someone quote the latter part of Nehemiah 8:10, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” And that scripture is very true. I’ve always thought of that scripture in parallel to the old recycling commercial: “Recycle, Reduce, Reuse; and close the loop”. It’s a very catchy tune whether you recycle or not. Most people of my generation remember how that tune goes.
When we look at Nehemiah 8:10 as a cycle, it would look like this:
My good heart and actions bring God joy, His joy gives me strength to do good in my heart and with my actions.
It’s a wonderful, never ending cycle. In those moments when we get tired, when we’re hurting, when we feel like we can’t move forward; remember what it feels like to make God proud. When we make God proud, He finds joy in us. And in turn, His joy is what we use as strength to make Him proud and bring Him joy.
Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
That is my message today, mostly for myself. And because I’m on blog this week, you get to reap the benefits! Don’t give up. Keep making God proud. Keep making Him smile. Keep working to bring Him joy. That joy is my strength. It’s YOUR strength. It’s OUR strength.
Be blessed friends.
