Recently I have been thinking about something I said during one of my sermons about Jesus speaking to His disciples and tell them:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
My question to myself and you is this:
How in the world can we do the things Jesus did and even greater works?
As I sit and think about it and wrestle with this, I am amazed that I have actually never seen anything in my life that is a greater work than what Jesus accomplished. The only thing that makes sense to me is because of what Jesus did on the cross and because He sent the Holy Spirit which would be the indwelling of the crucified and risen Christ within us.
This will be new. This will be greater than Jesus’ earthly miracles, because this is what he came to accomplish by his death and resurrection.
Why? Because it is a continuation of the gospel.
This greater work is the work of the Spirit of God in our lives. This indwelling Spirit to guide and lead.
I realize when I have messed up because I mess up on a regular basis. This is because of the indwelling Spirit of God in my life. If I am truly a Christ-Follower, then I cannot silence Him in my heart. The sins that have entangled us all must be taken captive by the Spirit and eradicated from our lives for good. When sin is exposed, and it always will be, we must become proactive to deal with it and then get it out so that God can continue He work in us through the Spirit.
May we all find grace and mercy from God, then from ourselves in these areas.
My prayer will continue to be this:
God help me, help all of us do justice to the Gospel. Draw closer and closer to you, speak love into other’s lives and promote you above ourselves. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Have a great day,
