How was I the fortunate one that gets to blog for Christmas week!?
Like many, this is my favorite time of the year because what we know as the normal, bustling, “too-busy-for-anyone-else-but-me” world slows down a little, and a spirit of charity and placing others before ourselves replaces our usual selfishness. Love, unity and fellowship permeate the air! And it just happens to be the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus….Huh!! What a coincidence!
While we were in Belize, we concentrated our thoughts on a particular scripture, II Cor. 2:14-17:
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
I LOVE this passage. We are like Spiritual Scentsies, or Godly Glade Plugins, or maybe you prefer Fatherly Febreeze. Something like that…
No matter whether you know it or not, you smell! Are you putting off the fresh rain-style smell of true life? Or are you smelling like last week’s spiritual leftovers?
Just like Pastor Derek preached this past Sunday, if you are engaged and involved this Holiday season with those you are around, not just “in the room,” then you are smelling like Christ.
I am very, very excited about this upcoming season and sermon series, “Campfire Conversations” in January. We want to be the kind of church that is presently and totally engaged in the lives of those the Father puts in our lives, smelling like life, and NOT just be the kind of stinky folks that throw out Bible verses without any thought or love, like some kind of Bible peddlers (v.17).
Our thoughts and love is toward you and yours this season. Here is to a Spirit-led, love-filled, FRAGRANT 2014!
