Why are we always pushing things off until tomorrow?
I do it all the time. I think to myself, “I will prioritize the things I must do.” And when I do that, those things on the bottom of the list NEVER get done. We all have busy lives and to fit anything else in, we must kick something out. Unfortunately, when we do this, what gets kicked out is our time with God, our spouse, & our family. You see, we all are guilty of letting the most important people in our lives take the brunt of the time constraints. Why do we do this? I have no idea! But it happens. Maybe it is because we believe those closest to us will have the most tolerance towards us? Maybe it is because we feel they will understand and forgive us? Maybe it is because we lie to ourselves and think, “quality not quantity,” when in actuality God, spouse, & children get neither our quantity or quality? They don’t get much of anything. Yet, we feel as though things are just rocking along.
I am GUILTY of these things and I feel that it is somewhat of an epidemic.
What is the answer? I am not sure. But, I believe I know a starting point to get the ball rolling in the right direction:
Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Start with this simple, small thing in your life. Be still (quiet) and know that God is who He said He is.
Be still and spend a few minutes with your spouse, just listening to them and telling them how you feel about them.
Be still and spend a few minutes with each of your children, just listening to them and telling them how you feel about them.
Be still and look around where God has placed you and listen to the needs of those around you.
Small steps turn into long distances when done repeatedly and with diligence.
This is the discipline we have been called to do.
Have a great day,
