I have asked The Vine people to read John 13-17 in preparation for Sunday. This is my second blog this week. These are my random thoughts on John 14.

Jesus continues with His teachings to the disciples and lets them in on His true purpose for existing on this earth. Verse 6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the Life. No one comes to the father except through me.” What a claim, this Rabbi is saying that He is not only the doorway to eternity but also the key. This good teacher is telling his disciples that He is the TRUTH. That all truth if not from Him is a lie. That there is nothing else in this world that will lead to truth except through Himself. This crazy movement maker is telling his followers who will one day turn the world upside down that He is LIFE. Jesus is saying that you might as well not even life unless you live through Him. That life will be meaningless unless you live it in Him.

Question> Who does this guy think He is?
Answer> Verse 7 – If you have known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.

Jesus knew He was God, and so He revealed Himself to them. This is huge in the scheme of things. Everything Jesus has done has been God doing them through Him. The disciples had to have been stunned. Thomas & Judas started to ask questions and I am sure others had questions. After that He gives authority to the believer in verse 14, If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. We then learn that the Holy Spirit is coming as a helper for Christ. And that He will manifest Himself to all Christ-followers but not to the world. At the conclusion in verse 29 we learn that He told them all of this before it takes place , so that when it does take place you may believe. Jesus truly had the cross on His mind. It had captivated His every though and words to His friends. As you read through chapter 15-17 I pray that you will feel the gravity of it all, and come out on the other side praising God for all He has done.
